I don't need to solve this case
And I don't need to look behind

Haruka and Michiru search the internet and magazines for people who could own a pure enough heart to contain a Talisman. Michiru watches Haruka out of the corner of her eye and sees the blonde getting more frustrated by the second. She knows it’s a futile work, that the Talisman could be in anyone, but just sitting here doing nothing would feel wrong.
Nevertheless she closes the magazine.
“Tell me …” Michiru starts softly and Haruka looks up. “Do you regret I found you?”
“Huh?”
“Back then … when it started. Do you regret the turn your life took?”
Haruka leans back. “Where does this come from?”
Michiru shrugs. “I suppose you spent your weekends differently back then.”
Haruka laughs a little and gets up. “I did. ‘Lonely’ would be a fitting word,” she answers and hugs her girlfriend from behind, buries her face in the soft blue hair.
“So you don’t miss the past?”
“Sometimes I think about it, but then I realize I’d have to live without you. And then the future looks brighter than my past ever could.”
Michiru smiles and leans into Haruka’s embrace.
“And if that means I have to go through all this stuff for every weekend for the rest of my life, then that’s fine as long as you’re here suffering with me.”
Michiru laughs before getting serious again. “What if we can’t save the world?”
She feels Haruka tense a little. “Then we’ll go down together - and that’s also fine with me.”

The outline that I trace
Around the one that I call mine

The water is warm and familiar, welcoming her home as Michiru dives in and enjoys the silence that surrounds her. She closes her eyes and as she keeps swimming, the only thing she can feel is the softness of the water as it glides between her fingers.
A few moments pass and the underwater silence is broken by a muted splash. Michiru opens her eyes and sees a figure diving towards her, the outlines obscured and yet just as familiar.
She halts in her movements and waits for Haruka to catch up, reaches out to gently guide the wafting hair out of her lover’s face. Haruka’s obscured lips turn into a smile and Michiru lets her fingertips trail over her face, her cheeks, her nose, her forehead, until Haruka catches her fingers with her own and pulls her in.
They kiss, and it’s not until their mouths fill with water (and bubbles of air from their laughter ascend to the surface) that they think of the need to breathe and emerge from the pool, only to continue their kiss surrounded by humid air.

Close my eyes
Let the whole thing pass me by
There is no time
To waste asking why

Haruka sees Michiru’s lifeless body on the floor. She’s still breathing, though it’s just shallow, and the Senshi knows it won’t be long until she’s gone. But it doesn’t matter, because the crystal of Michiru’s Pure Heart is hovering there, shining as bright as anything Haruka has ever seen. When it turns into a Talisman, she knows it’s over.
For both of them.
She smiles a bitter smile, remembering past times. The fun they had. The love they shared. Michiru’s smile.
“It’s all gone now,” she mutters to herself. “So it doesn’t matter anymore.”
She can still save the world (though hers is gone), for Haruka is sure that the second Talisman is in herself. She reaches for the gun, not once taking her eyes of Michiru. “The chase is over … and we kinda won,” she tells her and laughs softly, bitterly.
A part of her wants to scream: ‘Why? Messiah, is this the penalty for our deeds?’
But there is no time to waste. Usagi must be here any second.
“Michiru … I won’t let you go alone.”
And with this she pulls the trigger to extract her own Pure Heart, and hopefully another Talisman that hides in it.
