Title: Showering in silver
Fandom: Buffy
Prompt: 049 - Dance
Pairing: Darla/Drusilla
Words: 407

Darla licks the last drop of blood from her lips and allows the body in her arms to sink into the grass. She looks up and watches her companion, how the other vampire still clings to the dead girl in her arms and dances a waltz with her under the pale moonlight.

Darla feels a smile tucking at her lips while she seats herself on the soft body, continues to watch the light-footed steps of Drusilla whose head is tilted back to glance intensely at the full moon. The tender sound of her voice is carried to the blonde by a warm summer breeze, and once more she can’t help but wonder what wondrous thoughts haunt Drusilla’s mind. What makes her do the things she does, what makes her say the things she says?
Darla decides to participate, feeling a little jealous of the body so close to the vampiress while she just sits and watches. She makes her way over the meadow to Drusilla and frees the dead girl from her grip in a swift motion. The brunette’s eyes are full of surprise when she manages to avert her gaze from the moon, giving Darla a beaming smile before laughing like a little girl.

“What are you doing, love?” Darla asks, taking the place of the body in Drusilla’s arms, starting to sway with her to a melody unheard.
“I’m showering in the silvery moonlight,” Drusilla whispers and looks again at the sky, seeing things meant only for her. “Do you remember that golden light we bathed in? It was hot, intrusive, loud …”
Her smile alters, her voice gets shaky and Darla knows exactly what memories befall Drusilla. She holds on tight to her, giving her a loving kiss on the forehead to chase away the pictures of the deadly fire that almost killed them.
It seems to work, her frown fades and the playful gleam returns to her eyes.
“You remember, too,” Drusilla states and nods as if to ensure herself.
“I do,” Darla confesses.

“But you see, the full moon washes it all away. It extinguishes the gold, leaves only cool soothing silver behind. Bathe with me, Darla …”
She doesn’t object when Drusilla starts to slip the thin fabric of her dress over Darla’s shoulder, letting it fall to the ground before undressing herself completely, white skin shimmering silver in the pale moon light.

“Dance with me, Darla …”

And Darla dances.
