She keeps looking at these thin, pale lips that curl into a little smile. It looks kind of strange, like these lips were just not meant to smile too often. It seems sick and twisted, but Jessica knows that there has to be more behind it.
There have to be feelings, there has to be a meaning …
She lies back and smiles her very own smile of superficial happiness. The one she perfected over the years in high school.
“There’s no need for this,” an emotionless voice assures and Jessica obeys. Her smile falters, while Jane’s becomes even more sick and twisted.
It bugs Jessica that the vampire seems to read her like an open book. She brings her hand up and touches these lips that hold so many secrets. They are cold, unyielding, just like Jane’s eyes. These cold, jaded eyes that bore into Jessica’s, merciless, cruel, reading her even more.
Jane pushes Jessica’s fingers aside. Without annoyance, without gentleness, without any emotion. She’s just doing what she’s doing.
“Who are you?” Jessica asks.
A little chuckle, as meaningless as everything she does. “You know who I am.”
“No. I know your name and I know what you are. But who are you?”
“You’ll find out.”
Jane bends over and sinks her teeth into Jessica’s neck. The girl gasps but doesn’t do anything to stop it. Not that she could.
She feels the life being drained out of her body, feels colder and colder. “Is that what you feel like?”
She doesn’t know if any words left her lips, but is sure that Jane understood her all the same. She wants to repeat the question until she feels a sharp pain and is drained not only from blood but also from thoughts, worries and her whole being.
She knows she screams as the pain kicks in.
Minutes pass, hours pass, days pass … Jessica doesn’t know and she doesn’t care, until the pain subsides and she feels as calm as she never has.
“Open your eyes,” Jane lures, her voice so different now. Is there a meaning Jessica can hear?
She does as she is told and smiles, as she finally can see who Jane really is.
“I can finally see you,” she breathes, and they both know what it means when Jane smiles and bends down to kiss the newly turned vampire.
