that's always the argument "we need to do this to survive". i don't believe that for one second. what year is it now? 2007?? i'm pretty sure people can get real jobs nowadays as long as they're not drug addicts or huffing gas at work. i mean, how fucking hard is it?
i am OK with minimal hunting in the arctic for food when they use every last piece of the animal. but that's only a couple animals per week. imagine being vegan living up there? impossible.
killing 300,000 seals is not for food, or to live. it's to make money off of their coats and throw away the "scraps". it's fucking disgusting and hopefully they get shut down within the next year. i feel like there has been way more press about this issue in the last 2 years. it's finally getting people thinking about what the hell they're doing/supporting.

before you make generalisations, you should do some research on the lives of first nations people living in northern communities. it's "fucking hard" to get a job because there are none-literally NONE. which wouldn't be a problem if people could still live off the land, but now they can't because many of their hunting and fishing rights have been taken from them. not to mention dwindling/non-existant wildlife supplies due to mining, pollution, climate change, industrialisation etc. it's unfortunate that your argument (which probably comes from a good place and is one i agree with in some ways) is fueled by prejudice.
i appreciate your comment. but i'll stick to what i said. it's 2007, they should be able to get jobs and if there are NONE. then why the hell doesn't someone do something about it? it seems so unecessary for them to be so royally screwed. but i guess that goes for starving children too. if it hasn't already changed, it probably never will. i just feel like it could all be easily changed, but no one cares enough to do so. it's basically selfish people screwing over the rest of the world.
