Yes, I like jokes. I don't, however, like jokes that make light of serious situations. I don't find rape jokes or racist jokes funny, either.
When you take something as serious as human rights violations and say that you are experiencing one because of Livejournal, it is insulting to all the people who are being affected by genocide, torture, opressive governments and other REAL violations. Livejournal is not throwing your family members into gas chambers. They're just looking out for your journal's safety.
I devote a great majority of my time to human rights work. You are comparing a small annoyance to their massive suffering. I find that offensive.
You have no idea what I was doing.. my friend and I often 'pretend' to be overly obsessed about Livejournal, in a mocking sort of way, but that's our personal joke and not something you'd understand. You had no business getting involved.
I've also been involved in human rights for a very long time, but you seem to be very judgemental and assume you know what sort of person I am from one personal comment I made to a friend. It wasn't 'like a rape joke, or racist joke', I wasn't joking at the expense of victims of human rights violations, victims of torture and oppression (look, two Ps!), I was making a joke at the expense of people who are completely wrapped up in the internet and Livejournal. The person I made the joke to understood that.
Get off your high horse and go and argue for a more worthwhile cause, you seem to care a great deal which is good, so seriously, don't waste your time getting your knickers in a twist over stuff you don't understand :)
I had business getting involved because you posted it on the fucking internet and things on the internet aren't exactly private. If you don't want third parties getting involved, don't put it in front of their faces.
Inside joke or not, it's still sick. You may not have meant it at their expense, but it still was. Next time you're at an activist meeting, bring up your joke and see if they think it's funny.
