Medical Marijuana

Jan 27, 2010 22:23

Hello Everyone,

We have all heard the news and controversy about the rate of use and access to medical marijuana. We wanted to be pro-active and let all our employees know our position on the use of marijuana medical or otherwise. Marijuana is still an illegal drug under federal law and will not be allowed or accommodated under our LUH Drug and Alcohol policy. There is a misconception that a physician can prescribe marijuana for legal medicinal use. That is simply not true, Amendment 20 only provides an exception to criminal statues outlawing marijuana possession, use and cultivation. Amendment 20 does not alter the Drug Free Workplace Act or the Controlled Substances Act that ultimately make the use of marijuana and other drugs illegal.

If an employee feels like they have a need for medical marijuana we would highly recommend you work with your physician to identify alternative ways to treat your condition. If you have any questions feel free to contact myself or anyone in Human Resources.

Thank you!
