Guilty Pleasures
As summer starts, so do the summer television shows and the one that I am looking forward to at the moment is Drop Dead Diva. I know that this may not be the most well written show but summer tv is all about the guilty pleasures. If you are unfamiliar with the series it is a LIfetime Orginal but the cast is engaging and it is all about an LA model that dies and her soul is out in the body of a plus size lawyer. The main character Jane (who used to be the model Deb) is engaging and funny.
The best part for me is her learning about the woman whose body she has been put in. Her whole being. It makes me think about how much you can really know about the people around us and what behaviors make us who we are. I am certain that the show while heartfelt did not mean to be this deep but there are certain moments where I feel it does. Deb in Jane's body still has to deal with lingering emotions, intelligence, and desires of the body's previous owner. It would seem to be a very crowded situation. To make matters a little more interesting, Deb's boyfriend/soulmate Grayson is a new lawyer at the law firm where Jane works.
The stories have a definite Lifetime style ending and feel about empowerment and self worth. But hey its summer and I don't mind a lighthearted positive measure. Be back later to chat about my other summer shows that will most certainly be keeping me entertained.
