So, we were at the dog park, attempting to enjoy it while trying to stay away from the homeless man who appeared to be dying and his aggressive, unleashed, dog.
Everything was cool, he was pretty much dying on his own, we (the other owners and dogs) were just hanging out when Catfish's (the dog) owners yelled from the far side of the park "Does anyone have a cell phone." They seemed pretty cool, and a little insistent, so I offered "I have one, whats up?" as I walked to them.
"look over there" they pointed to a silver car with some commotion across the street. "Whats all that?" I asked, my eyesight not being too terribly sharp. "That woman is getting the crap beat out of her. The kid is crying, don't know if she is getting hit too or not!" they exclaim.
I call 911. Report the situation, car, details, clothes, etc. Hang up with Metro. They call me back "The police report there is no parking lot at Molasky Park" I answered "i didn't say parking lot. They are PARKED on the street!"
15 minutes later, 15 minutes of us standing there watching a giant black man beating a woman (we are girls...and people get shot in the park. I am as empathetic as the next person, but I am not getting shot for that woman) I call the police again.
"Umm, i called 15 minutes ago about a woman getting beat...she is still getting beat and the cops aren't here yet...any idea when they might arrive." the others at the park look at me in shock with the sarcasm dripping from my voice.
"They are en route" claimed the 911 operator. "However long it takes them to drive there."
I said "Ok, just thought a woman getting beat would be a quick response getting call..." I push.
"Well, is anyone hurt. is an ambulance needed? Is there blood" she askes.
"We are really too far away to see" I answer.
"Well, without blood, I cannot upgrade the priority of the call. They will arrive when they can."
I said thanks and hung up, rather slackjawed.
So, I n Las Vegas, if you are getting beaten up, make sure that enough blood is spilled for the onlookers to see and report that to the police. Otherwise, you will be dead by the time they arrive.
28 minutes after the call, the police get there. Thankfully for them, they were able to question all the parties involved as the man was still there beating her. Perhaps had they arrived 28 minutes before they would have saved the woman some bruises and maybe given her some faith in the police force.
The police were kind enough to come over and ask the dying homeless man with his aggressive dog to leave. This was after the dog attacked numerous other dogs and people at the park, but at least Metro can accomplish something right?
