Office Politics Suck!

Jun 20, 2007 15:25

Ok. I got my first taste of "real life office politics" and I didn't do a good job at all.

So, at work there is me. Then there is my boss Danielle. Then there is the woman taking my bosses spot as my boss is leaving in a few weeks. Her name is Dee. Then there is another woman in the office, named Mary. She is not my boss at all, but is the same level as my boss. Then there is the exec director Erick.

What I do at the office is handle the Tzedakah program, which is the emergency cash assistance program. People come in, apply, meet with me. They have to be Jewish, they have to have an eviction/shut off notice (emergency!) and they have to show financial responsability.

So, Mary came into my office when I was hanging with Dee. She said that one of her clients came in for Tzedakah and was denied. I explained that he didn't have the evicition notice. She just kept saying "I really want to see him get the money" and I kept re-iterating that he didn't meet the program guidlines.

So, it ended with Mary getting up and saying "Well, I outrank you so I am going to get the check ready." so, after she left I said to myself "Well Eric outranks you." So I went to the Exec Director (who would prob drop dead if he ever went against policy) and told him that Mary was trying to go against policy. He sided with me.

I got called into Danielles office and told that mary claimed I was rude and unprofessional to her. Dee didn't back me up like she said she would and instead just kinda sat there, not wanting to get involved.

so, I got written up at work. *shruggs* Learned something from it, so I guess that counts for something. damned office politics.
