Summer Project: Part 1

May 22, 2011 20:06

So have have a decided that this summer I'm  going to undertake the creation of 4 sewing projects:

1) Gryffindor Robes

2) Yoga Bag

3) Two skirts so I'm counting them as one

I really don't have that much experience with this whole "sweing" thing about I my mother is going to help me with things such as patter reading so hopefully by the end of the summer I will have some cool new stuff. I'm going to try and blog my way through this adventure because i have a feeling it going to be very entertaining. So let us begin.

Today I spent 2 hour and around $100 in Jo-Ann's fabrics trying to get everything I need for my projects. Here is my list of stuff for each project:

Gryffindor Robes
  • 8 yrds of Black Cotten/Poly blend (because it was half the price of the cotton)
  • 2 yrds of Red Cotton (TIP: if you attempt this as well make sure you have your tie first and bring it with you so you can match the colors)
  • The Pattern I'm using is Simplicity 5840 and I'm using Cape B
  • Frog Closure
  • Black Tthred
  • Gryffindor Patch (I haven't gotten this yet, I've been looking on amazon and there are a few different choices to choose between)
I have done some research on this whole robe  endeavor and i have found this two sites that take about there own attempts at robe making and i will be referring to them a lot. http://www.dartheagle.com/poa_robe1.html and http://hp-costuming.livejournal.com/701676.html Yoga Bag
I found this pattern online http://www.amybutlerdesign.com/pdfs/NigellaYogaBag.pdf and am pretty much just going to do what it says. I got my fabric from Bali Importers in Lake Worth. I'll post a picture of it with my next post. Anyway the list of everything you need is on there.

Skirts
I'm Fallowing this website http://www.freshlypickedblog.com/2010/02/elastic-waist-skirt-tutorial-mama.html and I had given leopard print and blue fabric. I pick up 2 yards of 2 in elastic today as well for this.

I think I should try and make the yoga bag first because it looks easy and i think i should start with the easy stuff first. however I need my robes to be done before Deathly Hallows Part 2 comes out in July and for LeakyCon in Orlando 2 days later so I am under a little bit of a time crunch there so who knows I just might go strait for the robes. Will see after I starting looking at how much i have to change the patterns.

Wish me luck
