Not really relevant to your situation, but here's my tale of inheriting a parent's car:

I almost punched a girl at MVD Express last year.

After my dad died I went there to transfer the registration on his car into my name. We didn't probate his estate because his will left everything to my mom, and all their stuff was jointly titled anyway. Well, except his car. Anyway, I had the title signed by my mom and a copy of the Power of Attorney that we executed when he first got sick.

Long story short, the girl at MVD Express would not accept any of that because he was already deceased and thus needed a copy of the will, blah blah blah. But she couldn't exactly tell me what I did need to bring to her. And she had the NERVE to say: "Ugh, its such a pain when someone dies."

I took a deep breath, counted to 10 and gathered my stuff and walked out.

I then went to an actual MVD location, waited in line, did not tell them that he had already died and just gave them the title & copy of the power of attorney and walked out with a new title & registration in my name.

Moral of the story: I'll never pay extra to go to MVD Express again :)

yah when i got my car, MVD express would not take the title because when they signed it the pen ranout and the name "didnt match" the title.

took it to MVD waited 40min and got it done no problem.
