So, I went to see The Golden Compass yesterday, wound up at the Rio instead of downtown due to some logistical issues.
hopefully this wont be too spoilery for you all.
I liked it, having never read the books i could just approach it from a Fantasy story standpoint, and ogle the steampunk/clockpunk images. of which were quite pretty!! I lovrd some of the etched equipment fronts, and the brass sliders and knobs.
I liked the leading girl, (she reminded me of my longest running childhood crush), and thought they did a pretty good job with most of it except dialog. I thought the human polar-bear dialog was so cliche and trite it grated my spine.
That and the use of the term "Many Universes" I stand by thefact there is only ONE Universe! and while i do believe in other dimensions and stuff like that they are just a facet in the (Everything==Universe).
It was not fantastic, but i would see it again, if i had the time/opportunity.
Why did Nicole Kidman not feel the sting when she slapped her monkey?
