R.I.P. Hunter S. Thompson
18 July 1937 - 20 Febuary 2005
This man was once my idol. I've read almost all of his books, two biographies and 3 of his published collections of correspondence. This man fueled my interest in journalism, leaving me with the notion to become a writer after reading his book, "The Rum Diary" (pictured above writing it in 1959 - the book just recently was green-lit to be made into a movie directed by Benicio Del Toro and starring Josh Hartnett).
His style was inspiring, writing with the conscious elegance of a madman in a stream of relatively coherent thinking not unlike that of Kerouac. But while Kerouac's writing covered the affectionate human psyche, Thompson managed to touch on every part of the human soul, leaving the reader bewildered as if they had just witnessed some sort of strange voodoo ritual.
Dr. Gonzo, rest in peace....you fucking hippie :)
