A Very Supernatural Christmas 3.08

Dec 16, 2007 16:48

I didn't really like the Supernatural Christmas ep upon first viewing because I was grumpy and in pain.  (Note to self: When wisdom tooth is being a bitch take two Advil to shut it down instead of a single puny one.)  But I went to bed happy anyway because of the sheer awesomeness of the final scene.  I'm not in the mood to nitpick about what worked and didn't work for me, suffice it to say that I enjoyed the episode a lot more with the second viewing and proper drug dosage.

But two things:

1)  I wish Dean had known who Dick Van Dyke was, so that in response to Sam's smart-ass comment he could have broken out in an impromptu "Step in Time" chimney sweep jig, resulting in a WTF?! look from Sam.

2)  I don't understand the Supernatural TWOP forum and John-bashers.   "Of course John puts the hunt first, family second."   Isn't that sort of the family's motto, Saving People Hunting Things? How is this any different than if John had been a firefighter/cop/paramedic/brain surgeon and had been doing his job and couldn't just abandon what he was doing to come home in time?  And you can't convince me that he wouldn't have been there if he could.  Where was there any indication that he missed Christmas on a regular basis? The Boston Market memory had to come from somewhere.  Granted,  I'm sure there was always some element of dysfunction (but then I could argue that our general notion of Christmas--going broke in the name of what has become a purely capitalistic holiday--is dysfunctional).  But anyway, you're right Dean.  Dad is a superhero.  Flawed, sure, but raise your hand if you're not and I'll give you a medal.  John-bashers:  Practically Perfect in Every Way indeed. Bah.

spn, john, gripe
