Japan Day 5 & 6

Feb 26, 2008 18:18

Today I went to the Tokyo National Museum and the Zoo (I broke down and had to go see the Giant Panda that wasn't out in the exhibit when i showed up). Anyways, the Tokyo National Museum pretty much covers the history of Japan, The shoguns armor, weapons, and so forth, their ancient scripts, art, and buddhism. unfortunately all of the signs were in Japanese except the name of the piece. So other than that, i can't tell you much, and they didn't allow photography inside the museum. But i did get a bunch of pictures of the museum which has nice architecture. After that i went to a temple, to Shinobazu Pond, and then the Ueno Zoo. The whole reason why i went to the zoo was to see the giant panda. and of course i got there 5 minutes after the giant panda exhibit closed. but whatever, i did get some nice pictures of a five storied pagoda, and that is my day.

Unfortunately today i got a late start, i didn't get out and about until 10:30 am. So that sort of pushed back everything I wanted to do. But oh well. today I went to the another museum, the Edo Tokyo Museum. It covered what life was like several hundered years ago in Tokyo, up to WWII. Some of this stuff was amazing. They had building fragments when the US did air raids over Tokyo, and bombs that didn't go off. It was pretty intense. They also had a scale model of a shoguns house and the thing was massive. They also had models of what life was life a few hundred years ago, the way that they had it set up, it made it seem there were just as many people back then as there are now. that is the big stuff in the museum. The rest of my day, included me going around trying to find Anime and Manga. Unfortunately I didn't find much that interested me. But the search will go on tomorrow.
