So yesterday was the most lovely day I've had in a long, long time.
We went to church in San Mateo, which was very interesting--a very different service than I'm used to, but incredibly touching at some points. I knew two of the songs (with slightly different lyrics) and sang those joyfully, while the rest of the songs I sort of stumbled along and eventually caught on by the end. Ryan and Ash and I spent a lot of the sermon making cheerful faces at the little girl in the row ahead of us, who was absolutely adorable.
The service was commemorating Transgender Day of Remembrance and Thanksgiving--both memorializing and celebrating the lives of those killed because they were transgender. My most distinct memory from the sermon is the strong sense I had of God's love for all His children.

After church we went home to change, and then packed up our pies, fruit, cookies, and drinks for a hike out to the promontory on
Mori Point. It's a lovely, pleasant walk along the boardwalk for about a mile, and then a hike up some steps to the top of the promotory, and then down to the edge overlooking the water.
We took some pictures along the way:
Once we found a decently dead-grassy spot of turf on the slope of the promontory, we spread out our coats and our lunch.
The pies worked beautifully, except only Zach's came out of the pan for hand-held eating (his came from the second batch, when we experimented with buttering the dish). Fortunately we'd thought to bring forks for everyone else. We talked and watched kayakers and took selfies and threw crusts over the edge of the cliff and snuggled against each other in the cold wind and watched the sun set, and it was just breathtakingly peaceful and beautiful and warm.
We walked back after the sun set, though the light lingered for a long, long time. It only hit full dark just as we were approaching home.
But it was still only like 6 p.m., so we hung out for several more hours, talking curled up next to each other on the couch, giving back rubs and foot rubs, watching Wreck-It Ralph and making plans for the next day. A lovely, lovely evening.
This morning Zach is going to the doctor, and then we'll have brunch in SF and then head up to the Redwoods for the afternoon, before returning to Pacifica in the evening for Catching Fire with one of Zach and Ryan's friends from church. Ash and I woke up about 7:20 this morning and spent a while talking and Tumblring (and now blogging) but it sounds like other people are beginning to stir, so it's time to get up and get moving!
