No. 2 UConn (8-0) downed South Carolina 97-39 yesterday. Sophomore Tina Charles led the charge with 23 and 10, 14 and 8 (6 offensive) of those were in the first half. Finally, some domination in the post.Ketia Swanier had 15 points while super-freshman Maya Moore had 10 - her 8th straight double-digit game. Moore also had 5 blocks, 4 of which were in the first half.It looked like a great win but Kalana Greene, one of UConn’s most athletic players and defenders, sustained a severe right knee injury (ETA: ACL) while driving to the basket in the first half.

“She was going to the basket and kind of came to a jump stop,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “The knee was straight, locked up, and one of the Carolina kids came up and her knee seemed to hit Kalana’s knee and kind of buckled it.”

Greene was averaging 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds. And she brought a lot of energy into the court. There’s no question that this year’s Huskies are talented but what will happen if Kalana’s out?

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Maya Moore.

Anyhoo, I missed this game (again) and I don’t know why. I got a lot of things on my mind lately.

Additional Note:

UConn opens its Big East season on January 3 at Villanova. Good thing we don’t have to go to work that day.

This just in:
