The man who allegedly
choked an erratic subway rider to death on a Lower Manhattan train was released without being charged, police said Tuesday.
The 30-year-old man was acting out and threatening other passengers on a northbound F train just before 2:30 p.m. Monday when the 24-year-old man intervened and put him in a headlock, according to cops.
The man lost consciousness, and medics pronounced him dead at the Broadway-Lafayette Street/Bleecker Street station.
The 24-year-old had been taken into custody, but the NYPD confirmed to the
New York Post Tuesday morning that he had been released.
The NYPD has not identified either man.
Sources told the Post that the man who died had numerous prior arrests for offenses including assault, disorderly conduct and fare beating.
