First of all, thank you for all the kind replies to my last post. I didn't/don't have time to reply individually, but each comment means a lot to me.
Elias was supposed to be discharged from the hospital today. He was happy and energetic in the morning. As luck would have it, he woke up from his afternoon nap with a fever over 102 and started vomiting. After vomiting, he became lethargic which freaked me out. He kept closing and opening his eyes...like dosing off. At one point he just stared blankly and wasn't responding to me. After all that, he's been poorly. He hasn't had anything to eat today except breastmilk, water, maybe a few cheerios in the morning, and about half of a saltine cracker (he threw up the other half). I think his fever went down after the second dose of Tylenol but he still just wants to sleep. :( During all this time he's been sick, Tylenol has perked him up and he's been energetic. Not today.
Elias' own pediatrician visited in the early afternoon (as he did yesterday as well). He also brought in another infectious diseases specialist (Elias saw another one in the ER). The infectious diseases specialist thinks it's a persistent virus but there's still no definite cause for Elias' illness. They did blood work again and "bagged" Elias for a urine sample. I wasn't there for the blood work this time but Hassan said they took 4 viles so I guess they're doing a lot of testing. The doctors talked about all different kinds of tests. Elias pediatrician also decided that it would be good to give Elias some IV fluids. It's not just glucose water though. I noticed that the bag says "potassium chloride." Ugh. I feel like Elias is being given all this stuff but he isn't getting enough rest. People are in and out of the room ALL THE TIME, day and night. He's even expected to take his aspirin at night.
So anyway, that's what's going on. I don't know if he'll even be released tomorrow. We'll see. I hope he perks up this evening.
Napping at the ER after his blood draw/IV placement
After admittance into his own room. Spilling milk into his lap...
First night in his hospital crib.
Baby jail?
After his immune globulin was started.
Sleeping on my "bed." That thing is gawd awful to sleep on! I can feel every single coil. Anyway, Elias took up all the space and continuously woke up freaking out, so I let him have his space and just stood there in the darkness until Hassan returned at 6 am.
They were awake when I called to say I was coming back (we live like right across the street, mind you) but this is the way I found them when I returned yesterday.
Yes, stinky Pampers. We can't use cloth in the hospital because they want to weigh all diapers.
Playing with my shoes insanely early this morning.
...and he hasn't stood on his own 2 feet since. He just wants to be held. :'(
Time to return to the hospital.
