hey guys,
if any of you university of minnesota students are looking for a part-time campus job, i might have one for ya. it's the job i currently have, working for building management in the academic health center. it's about 15 hours a week, possibly more or less depending. it pays 8-something an hour, which is pretty good for a campus job where you don't have to do anything difficult. they DESPERATELY need people who can work tuesday and/or thursday during the middle of the day. if you could work then, and came with a referral from me, you'd pretty much be guaranteed a job.
the job involves basic office-type duties. you sit at the information desk in either BSBE/Hasselmo Hall, MCB, or the brand new building, McGuire Translational Research Facility (TRF). these buildings house labs where they do all sorts of fun research experiments, with departments such as biomedical engineering, neuroscience, genetics and cell development, and the new stem cell institute, among others. the buildings are access-controlled, so we check out access cards to people and set up new people to get their U-cards activated, that sort of thing. there's also a myriad of other stuff.. we basically do lots of miscellaneous jobs to keep the buildings running smoothly. and of course we answer peoples' stupid questions about where the elevators are and all that.
it's pretty much easy and they train you well. the building managers (the bosses) are super nice too, and pretty flexible. if you stay a couple years they also give terrific references for future employers.
training is before school starts, but last year they worked around spat camp for me, no problem.
so yeah, if you're interested the job listing is here:
