“What are your plans for tomorrow?”

Mitz looked up at Makoto, who was hovering over her desk. It had been three weeks since their rendezvous in his office had been interrupted, and she hadn’t had an opportunity to speak with him since.

“Excuse me?”

“Tomorrow. It’s a Thursday. Do you have any plans for that evening?”

Mitz laughed. “Let me consult my busy schedule.” She pantomimed opening a calendar. “Hmm…I have a date with my sofa and some frozen lasagna, and afterwards I’m catching a movie with my boyfriends, Ben and Jerry.”

Makoto scowled. “I’m being serious here, Mitz.”

“Oh.” Mitz started feeling a little nervous. Was he asking her out on a date? “No, I’m free. Why do you ask?”

Makoto looked over his shoulder to make sure that there was nobody listening. “It’s a bit of an assignment, really. Usually I take Riley on this sort of thing, but she’ll be out of town.”

Mitz raised her eyebrows. “An assignment?”

Makoto laughed. “Don’t get any crazy ideas. I’m not going to ask you to kill anyone or anything. It does involve a bit of acting, however.”

“Okay. What exactly am I signing up for?”

Makoto drummed his fingers on her desk. “Don’t take this the wrong way. I have a meeting with a few very important business partners. It’s a bit of an unspoken tradition to bring a woman along.” Makoto smirked. “You’d basically be acting as arm candy for the evening.”

Mitz actually choked. “I’m flattered, but I really think you have the wrong person here.” She looked around to make sure Riley was out of sight. “I haven’t got the looks for that sort of thing.”

“I beg to differ.”

Mitz blushed. “Are you sure?”

“Is that a yes?”

Mitz sighed. “Yes. Fine, but if they throw me out, don’t blame me.”

Makoto grinned. “They won’t. I promise.”

Mitz shook her head. “What am I even supposed to wear to this sort of thing?”

“Oh, don’t worry, I’ll take of everything.” Makoto took a sticky note and a pen off of her desk and placed them in front of her. “Write down your address. I’ll have someone pick you up. You won’t be coming in to work that day, but the driver will bring you everywhere you need him to.”

“Everywhere? There’s multiple locations?”

He smiled. “I’ll have a schedule emailed to you by the end of the day.”

“I’ll take that as a yes.” With a sigh, she wrote down her address and handed it to him. “I don’t know why I agreed to this.”

Makoto pocketed the slip of paper. “I don’t know either.” He caught her gaze and winked. “But I do have an idea.”

As he walked away, Mitz couldn’t help but smile. It wasn’t exactly a date, but it was a start.
