happy :)
i came home from work yesterday completely exhausted, i collapsed into bed no later than 9:30 but still didn't sleep well, and was lying awake feeling awful this morning when my alarm went off at 5:30....
and i am so ridiculous happy right now, it's not even funny :D
i was finishing up memoirs of a geisha on the metro this morning and only had TWO pages left when my train pulled into the station, so i figured i'd read while i walked, just to finish it up before i went in to work (NO ONE can stop reading when there are only a few pages left! that's like torture) but then, as i was reading the last page on the escalator leading to the street i heard beautiful echo-ey music. THERE WAS A SHAMISEN PLAYER IN THE METRO! it was like the most perfect experience ever, reading about sayuri's final transformation and the way she ended up making a new life for herself in new york, blending the traditions of japan with the opportunities in america just as i heard the same beautiful traditional music juxtaposed with the hustle of a washington work day morning
i walked the entire 7 blocks to my office grinning like an idiot :)
p.s. and today is my little sister christine's 18th birthday!!!! and her second day of college. wow. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTINE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
