For the record, I'm not pleased with the complete absence of Billy Riggins in this episode. Generally speaking, I would like more Riggins brothers in my episodes, because while I like Landry and all, I don't like him at the expense of my favorite boys losing screen time.
So, last night's episode, I was kind of appalled at the complete inability of any of the women on this show to function without their respective men. Seriously, is there not a single self-sufficent female character on this show? Tami's a mess and is apparently turning the nerdtastic science teacher into a surrogate husband? Julie's throwing herself at a loser in a van? Tyra... oh my god, don't even get me started on Tyra. And then there's Lyla.
Actually, I'm going to cut Lyla some slack. She's kind of tiny and Buddy is... not, and she definitely wouldn't get far with him on her own. Besides, it appears that the Riggins clan have more highly evolved dealing with drunk people skills. For obvious reasons.
The Tim/Lyla they're so clearly building up to is EPIC TRAINWRECK. It's so knight/damsel, and I'm so completely fundamentally opposed to it on almost every level, but I can't look away. Tim not being the fuck-up fascinates me.
Coach Taylor is freaking badass. I love him, but he'd better get his bad self back to Dillon, because this contrived separation plot device is not working for me. Period.
The scene with Matt's grandmother and her tiara? I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at this show. Matt's dumbfounded "tiara?" and Landry's all "That'll be beautiful for whenever you just zip over to Rite-Aid." And she's all "you can't put a price tag on happiness" and Landry is all "oh, look at her" and I really feel sorry for poor Matt this season, but that exasperated look he gives Landry right then is fucking hilarious.
Oh, show. Why not more Landry like that? Instead of the ff.net worthy manslaughter story you've got going on instead.
