God, I hate people sometimes.
Have now had three bad pet store experiences in as many weeks.
First:
Went to the Guelph pet store with Libby, and was looking for a keeper for my Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. The guy asks me what I was going to use it for, and when I told him, he goes "Oh, you're WEIRD. WHY!? What's the matter with normal things, like cats?". I responded with "I have a cat, too, thankyouverymuch." and he says "Oh, ok, that's better." Seriously, what's the matter with the guy? He WORKS at the pet store, and he's calling me, his customer, WEIRD?! And god forbid that I have and love usual pets. *rolls eyes*
Second:
Was at the PJ's Petstore at Yonge & Eglinton when I was in Toronto. Two teenaged guys are talking to a saleslady about the snake that they're buying and what they need for her tank.
Saleslady: "So you're going to need this, and this substrate, and a cave -"
Boy: "No, we're not going to get one of those."
SL: "You have to."
Boy: "No, cause then she's just going to hide in it all day. We want to be able to see her all the time."
SL: "She needs to have a cave or a safe dark place to go. Otherwise she'll be stressed and upset."
Boy:
"Fiiine. Can we have her out all the time instead?"
SL: "If she's in your hands, then you can have her out. You can't just let her roam the house - she will get into any little crack, and she'll be gone."
Boy: "Fiiiine."
Me: *mentally kills the two boys* How about I put YOU in a big glass house and give you NOTHING to sleep in?!
Third:
Went to the Guelph petstore again to check out the lovebirds. There's an adorable little peachfaced lovebird, and we're eyeing eachother. A salesgirl dressed half in uniform comes in.
Me: "Were these birds hand fed?"
Girl: "Ummmm..." *opens rabbit pen, starts playing* "Well, they were, but they've been here awhile and so they're not so friendly anymore."
Me: "...So they don't get handled at all?"
Girl: "No..." *still playing with rabbits* "They're really skittish."
Me: "..."
Girl: *sighs, gets up to look at the cages with me* "I think... that one?" *points at little yellow bird* "...is the most friendly?" *goes back to playing with rabbits* "But the rest? Not so much."
...So, they'd still be 'friendly' if you'd do more than look at them more than once a week, maybe think about playing with them like you are with those bunnies? The poor birds are being totally ignored (they didn't even have a cuttlebone, had ONE toy, and as far as I could tell, were on a total seed diet)!
*anger*
