OMG. That vid was kind of like a three minute orgasm. I am having trouble expressing myself clearly right now, but I love this on so many levels. First of all it is UNUTTERABLY HOT. And then it has all the commentary on gaze and objectification with everyone wanking to everyone else and staring at themselves and performing for each other and mirrors and being bemused and elated by the weirdness that is sex. And commodifying it for the movies and the viewers and the money and each other. And that would be a pretty satisfying (heh) vid all on its own ( ... )

i'll just say word to heyiya's analysis/description (she has a tendency to articulate what i can't :) I love the way things are alluded to only, the way it sits smack in a discursive community that doesn't even need the text to Closer to have tons of connotations.

Theory is hot is definitely my own personal subtitle to this.

I was worried it would be unsubtle and hit people over the head with a 2 by 4. I still think I went a bit far, but I tried to hang back on it at least a little.

I like your subtitle. :)

Well--it is and isn't subtle. I think the obvious porn/voyeurism theme's pretty clear, but using a different Closer version's a real nice touch and all of that alluding to the way we do or do not become voyeurs in fandom....

I wish I could say I felt even mild shock at the subject matter. Well, not really.

I shall leave feedback when my eyes don't burn so much and I can download and watch properly.

I HEAR YA on the spitting. I'm just like O_o 'I'm not the type to get grossed out easily, but I don't allow sex partners to spit on me like that', for real.

Dude, I was seriously confused by most of it. I must be doing it wrong or something. Het is confusing. Too many fluids!

EHhehehe, yeah, it's pretty impossible for someone to be shocked by something in my vids anymore. No one bats an eyelash at them now. :)

Hopefully the porn didn't make your eyes burn.

Dude, like you I struggle with theory; not so much the babbling randomly about character motivations fannish meta but proper theory in part, at least, because of the specialised language barrier and also because theory tends to be always that tiny bit out of my intellectual grasp. I can understand...parts; fragments of the idea and apply them to the things I'm interested in, but when I try to lay it all out neatly, it's like clenching sand in my fist. Theory is this big, awesome, wild, weird mash of ideas that's too big for me to concentrate on all at once ( ... )

Meta I can do. I can meta like there's no tomorrow, but theory is where I fail. I never feel adequately equipped to speak on subjects. I'm not smart enough or something. Like you, I understand bits and pieces, but I don't get everything.

This is is about you. It's about me too. It's about everyone, so your commenting being an essay about yourself is the perfect comment.

Words usually fail me, so vidding can take the place as my form of communication in the academic area of fannishness.

I'm glad I'm not alone in confusion over all the spit.

vimeo is the only streaming service where I use a password. they try to aim for the 'artistic' film makers. which I think your vid fits perfectly. :-)

I've been using a password on vimeo for home movies.

I've come across a lot of interesting things surfing around vimeo. I think their choice in target audience is interesting.

I totally didn't read the notes before I downloaded and watched, so I just watched it. I have to say I found the visual parallels between the three movies intriguing. I've only ever watched Shortbus, though. Having read the notes, I see how it all clicks together now, more or less, and it gives a lot of food for thought. I almost wonder at the place of fanfic, manips, and vids which use manips/overlays/whathaveyou in relation ( ... )

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm always up for discussion.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to include this many notes with the vid at first. I'm usually one for putting the vid out there and letting the viewer interpret it. After talking with a few people, I decided to have a bunch of notes for this one because my intent gets lost in my vids. It's something I'm working on.

The visuals between the movies are somewhat similar and I intentionally looked for paralleled frames and angles to tie the three sources together.

Part of my thoughts on the vid come from my thoughts on manips and their use in vids. I did I Want You (She's So Heavy) where I took characters and made them have sex. It says something to me about fandom where we take characters and essentially make them have sex in new and interesting ways.

There's a lot of me in this vid as far as my own personal issues.

I was particularly intrigued by the emphasis on the female nude in the vid - it was nearly a focal point in and of itself - the female body - as an eroticized object.I ( ... )

Ah, ok, I see now. That all makes sense of some of the clip choices and such.

I made the decision to watch the surface, readily available, and free stuff for the general population. And wow. Was it awful. I couldn't watch most of it because it had too much spit, or low quality, or severe objectification. I wanted to study that aspect, but I feel like I more bought into it than commented on it.

I have to chuckle here. At the "and wow. Was it awful" bits. I mean - yeah. The more mainstreamy porn and erotic films are pretty numbing and sometimes strange and bizarre in their own right.

Heh. National anthem rimming ftw. :DDDD
