Yeah, haven't updated this thing in over two months, mostly because nothing's been going on that's really worth mentioning. Work, sleep, and WoW make up pretty much my entire existence lately. I guess I should try coming up with stuff to fill this space with.
Anyway, the real reason for this entry is because I'm considering upgrading my computer, and I want opinions on the parts I'm planning on buying. I haven't spent much time looking into computer parts recently, because I hadn't planned on upgrading so suddenly, but with
this HOLY CRAP AWESOME MONITOR going back on sale, I have two days to decide what I need to get if I'm going to get that monitor and accomodate its insanely high resolution for gaming.
So, here's what I've picked out:
MSI K8N Neo4-F Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4-4X ATX AMD Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor XFX Geforce 6800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card And, of course:
Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand This will be upgrading from an Athlon XP 2800+ and Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB, and a 19" ViewSonic CRT.
So, to you people who have been keeping up with computer technology recently, how does this look? Are there other brands/models you'd reccomend over the ones I chose? I tried to find a balance of things that are fast enough to run games on this monitor with decently high graphics settings enabled, without throwing away my entire life savings on a computer upgrade.
With these parts, I'm going to be spending about $1400 at the end of the day, which is a huge amount of money to throw at something on such short notice, but I can afford it, and I may (hopefully) be able to convince my dad to buy my old parts off of me to help lessen the blow a bit (that is, if I don't chicken out and pass this deal up, but goddamn, those screenshots Antiarc posted are pretty).
