This is (one of many reasons) why I love these films. I've watched Fellowship of the Ring 25 times (this being my 25th viewing), and I still get something new out of it every time I watch it. I just noticed that when the fellowship is walking up to the door to the Mines of Moria, you can hear wolves howling in the distance. I'd never realized that before. It's something that wouldn't even register to the average moviegoer, but to a fan of the books, it's a nice tribute to one of the really cool scenes that didn't make it into the movie. So cool.

Edit: Also, now I know for certain I've been playing too much WoW. When Galadriel gives Legolas his new bow, I couldn't help but think, "Cool, I wonder what kind of stat adds it gives."
