There’s no escape to it. The moment you’d get caught would be the moment all would be over. A lost battle.
Aoi knew this, he knew it all too well, and yet he was trying anyway, giving all he had.
Hands clasped tightly on his steering wheel. He had to make it. Speeding up, passing all the buildings and other surroundings with unhumanly speed. Would he be able to make it on time?
A sharp turn, wheels screeching over the ground. He was a master on his bike, and he knew it. Speed caught up again. What if? But he had no time to think, he couldn’t allow himself to let that question run through his brain, for now, the most important thing was to concentrate on the road ahead, on the next turn ahead of him. His hair was blowing annoyingly in his face, but he ignored it.
>>>
“Ne Aoi-chan? Promise me you’ll always protect me?” A 5 year old Kai had asked him the day Kai’s parents were killed.
“Of course, I’ll always be there for you” He had kissed the younger boy on his forehead, wrapping a warm blanket around them as they sat in the quiet living room.
<<<
He could hear them, they were close behind him.
“Hurry or there’s no hope for Kai anymore.” Voices screamed through his mind. He had to ignore them, he couldn’t let them get to him. He just had to trust on his ability to handle his bike.
Another turn was made, the sounds of bikes crashing into eachother or a wall, warned him they were only getting closer and closer, even though he’d lost some of them now.
>>>
“AOI!! How could you?! He was my FRIEND! HOW COULD YOU?!” Fists slammed against Aoi’s chest, but he didn’t feel anything but the dull ache in his heart as a sobbing Kai collapsed against him.
“He wanted to kill you, Kai! He wanted you dead...” Words were muffled, and Aoi knew the younger didn’t believe believe him.
He just wanted to protect Kai...
<<<
How much longer would it take before he arrived at his destination? He knew he couldn’t keep this up for very long.
Shots were fired, trying to reach him. Yet another turn saved him from the rain of bullets. Crashes were heard again, relieving in a way, that there were at less people after him than before.
>>>
“What happened to your arm?”
“It’s nothing.” He shrugged, moving the blanket up to cover the ugly wound.
“No Aoi! TELL ME!! I’m sick of you hiding things from me! I’m not a little kid anymore!” The sound of a hand colliding with a cheek was heard and then Aoi was alone in his room again, staring with wide eyes at the spot Kai had been standing only seconds before as tears started tickling down his cheeks.
<<<
No, he definitely couldn’t keep this up much longer. His body was weak, his mind clouded. But he had to. He promised Kai.
He couldn’t live without the other.
>>>
“I’m sorry...You were right about them…”A soft whisper was head as another body joined his own under the covers as he snuggled closer.
“It’s okay, don’t worry.” Aoi’s hand tangled itself in the soft brown hairs, gently massaging the other’s scalp.
“I love you, Aoi” Lips turned up into a small smile as he tightened his hold on Kai.
“I love you too”
<<<
“Kai...” ‘KaiKaiKaiKaiKaiKaiKaiKaiKai’ was chanted in his head, over and over again.
“Hey Aoi, missed me?” A blonde haired man had sped up enough, now driving next to Aoi.
“I’ll fucking kill you if you hurt Kai!!” He shouted, trying to take a turn to get rid off the other, but Reita was fast.
“Just like you did with Ruki, eh? I thought you were one of us!!” Aoi threw the other a glare and without thinking, he shoved his bike against Reita’s, capturing him in between the bike and the wall. The sounds of tearing metal was heard, Reita botling forward on his seat as he legs were curshed between vehicles and wall.
Without another word Aoi sped up, leaving Reita half hanging against wall and bike, unable to free himself.
Aoi knew the other followers would pause and help their leader first. Which meant he would win some extra time, time that he really needed.
“Please Kai, be okay..” The surroundings of Tokyo were exchanged for nature. The one straight not offering any escape routes, but it had to do for now.
>>>
“AOI!! AOI!! Help me!! Aoi!!” Screams were heard as the brownhaired man was pulled away and pushed roughly into a car.
“KAI!! NO! Let me go! KAI!” He struggled, trying to free himself from the firm grip of his captors.
“KAI!!”
<<<
“Kai, Kai...Kai...” He couldn’t live without the other, he needed him. Every single thing he did was for Kai.
“Kai I’m coming...please be okay, please...” A building came in sight, and he sped up a bit more.
As he reached the garden, he didn’t slow down at all. Without thinking he jumped off his bike, giving himself no time to recover as he dashed for the door, his bike sliding over the grass and ending up only a millimeter away from the wall.
No time was spent on the crashed bike as he forced his legs to run, throwing the door open, spotting his beloved tied up in the corner of the empty room.
“AOI!?”
“KAI!” He rushed to the other’s side, hugging him close while he waisted no time in cutting through Kai’s bounds.
“You’re safe now” He whispered, pressing a kiss to the other’s lips.
“Aoi, we have to hurry! Reita-“
“Reita can’t walk for now, but you’re right.” He grabbed Kai’s hand and pulled him up from the floor as they hastily ran towards the door. In the far distance they could see vechicles nearing.
A glance at his bike was enough to tell Aoi it wouldn’t hold on for too long, but it was all they had now.
“Let’s go.” He quickly pulled it up and sat down as Kai jumped on too and they sped off, into the forest.
There had to be away to lose the others...
“Make them believe we died in a bike crash!” Kai shouted over his shoulder, his hands holding a tight holding tightly onto Aoi’s jacket and Aoi nodded.
The cliffs...perfect place. It was a risk they had to take.
He sped up a bit more, the edge neared and the bike dove down into the sea, a big explosion blowing everything up.
~~~~~~
“Are they dead?” Reita turned around to face the only man that had dared to return with empty hands. No Kai, no Aoi...
The taller blonde nodded.
“They flew over the edge of the cliffs. The only things left are some torn pieces of clothes.” Uruha showed him the tiny bits of cloth that didn’t got burned.
A frown appeared on the others face. He had wanted to kill them himself, especially after all they did to him, but then he shrugged. Dead was better than alive.
~~~~~~
“Hey Kai?” Mentioned man turned around to face him with a smile.
“That was a very good idea” A nod of confirmation was giving as they stepped closer, arms wrapping around each other, the setting sun bathing their half naked bodies in an orange glow.
He still couldn’t believe they managed to do the trick, nor that they really survived jumping from the bike into a tree. Though, the look on Uruha’s face as he picked up some of the resting peaces of their clothes was enough to know that their plan had succeeded.
“Let’s move to another country and start over...” Smiles were shared and with a final glance over their shoulders to the cliff behind them, they turned and made their way to the car waiting for them.
Off to a new life ahead of them, to a country where they could live without fearing for their lives.
A new start, for them together.
