So the weekend in Taylor was good. I was actually down in Upland for only half the weekend - Wendy and I ended up leaving early Saturday morning instead of Friday night and coming back Sunday morning for the festal Liturgy at Holy Ascension. We got to Taylor 'round 10am on Friday and got to hang out with the Messiah guys for a few hours before they left for home after lunch. At that point Ash (who came down from Wheaton) and I fell asleep on one of the couches and an armchair respectively, and when I woke up a while later all of us (Ash, Becky, Wendy, and two of Becky's friends) were asleep on the couches, chair, and floor :-). You know you're getting old when you take group naps at high school class reunions :-). It was super funny though - I woke up first (oddly enough) and got to take sleeping pictures before they woke up :-).
Saturday night we went to a senior recital (played by one of Becky's friends - it was quite good) and then to a goodbye party for some dude moving out to Seattle (good place to go :-) ). It was interesting to observe a bit of the Taylor student culture. It was funner to talk with Wendy and Ashley and Becky (it was fun when they were watching a DVD of "The Office" too :-) ).
Sunday was Wendy's turn to oversleep :-), so we were kinda late getting off. We ended up getting to Holy Ascension at the end of the Great Entrance, after I got ticketed and we had a gas tank scare. It's my first speeding ticket (Deo gratias), but the cop was super cool and only wrote me up for 5 m.p.h. over the limit. It must've been kind of weird for him to pull over a red-bearded guy with a Korean girl claiming to be coming from a visit to friends from Kenya in Indiana and driving a 'borrowed' (yeah right) car with an icon on the dash and Russian music playing :-). So odd...
While we were parked on the side of M-60 the car was tilted all weird, and the gas tank read as being totally empty. Fortunately it climbed back up a bit as we drove on (the miracle of the multiplication of the petrol :-) ). If it'd kept climbing and we'd arrived at church at the start of the Divine Liturgy (an impossibility as it was getting on to 11am) we joked that we'd have an icon written with the Lord blessing the car in the church parking lot with my ticket going up in flames in His left hand, the fuel intake spouting gas, us with our arms in the orans position so you could see our watches with 10:45am on them (our arrival time), and the church with a clock on it saying 10am (the start of Liturgy). God in His wisdom didn't work things out that way, so it's unlikely that we'll be commissioning that icon anytime soon. It was fun to think about though :-).
So, that in sum was my weekend. I'm back to thinking more strongly about going to South Korea (Becky's going to teach there in the fall next year), but I'm leaning more toward staying here for a year and then going (if I'm gonna go at all). It doesn't feel right. Then again, I'm not sure that staying here feels right either :-/. "Feelings." Ой...
I hope you're all well. Your prayers! They're ever needed...
