We had a very interesting chapel today. I must confess I was also very much taken with the book I was reading during the performances, but the speaker was good nonetheless. He was from Exodus Ministries and spoke about how to love people struggling (or not struggling) with homosexuality while also challenging them to live a pure life devoted to God. I think they've come before, but in light of recent events, both on campus and in our society generally, the timing of the talk was good.
Can all homosexuals leave their sexual temptations for heterosexual marriage? I don't know. The success of groups like Exodus sounds quite mixed. God can certainly change anyone's life, but many people struggle with this or that temptation their entire life. For Exodus to say that any and all homosexuals can live a completely "normal" life thus seems like a bit of a stretch. May God grant it to those for whom He has willed it, but I have the feeling that some people are called to celibacy (*gasp* - can a Westerner ever be celibate?) and all the struggles that that can entail.
Anyways, a few thoughts. I must ask the forgiveness if any homosexuals are reading this - you know your struggles better than I do. I also ask the forgiveness of all of you. I'm doing my poor best to prepare through this Lent for our sweetest Jesus' Resurrection, yet I haven't reconciled with all of you and restored peace between us. Forgive me for that and for however I have sinned against you.
Your prayers, and may God grant a saving Lent to those of you who have just begun to the Fast!
