"He who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind..."

I'm continually amazed by how the Lord speaks to me through something as short and simple as the daily readings. We're still celebrating the Nativity and today's readings were from James 1:1-18 and Mark 10:11-16. They're only vaguely in my mind now, but they were perfect for where I was today.

Our Father God is continually showering His heavenly blessings upon us, but we so often reject them for the filth of this earth. I so often reject them for the filth of this earth.

Today's epistle spoke strongly to me because it was both an exhortation and a warning at the same time. St. James reminded me to count all temptation joy, to seek patience and wisdom, and to fearlessly approach the throne of glory with my requests. He also warned me of the danger of my doubts, of my lack of commitment to doing God's will whatever it is. For such a one [who doubts] "is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind" (James 1:6).

May the Lord perfect His strength in our weakness! I have yet to doubt and still trust in the Lord's wisdom. Wisdom has built Her House, but I pass it by and look awkwardly in the other direction to avoid being reminded of the good I ought to search out and do and make a part of who I am.

Both my dad and my parents' dog are sick, so I'm spending a quiet day at the house in case either of them need attention. (So far my dad's remained pretty much cloistered in his room, but when I do see him I'm not encouraged to think that his recovery will be a quick one.) God willing tomorrow I will get into the city and get some things done that I've been wanting to do for the past week or so.

"Therefore lay aside all filthiness and...wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." (James 1:21-22)
