I'm sort of embarrassed to say it, but most of my praying the past few days has been for my parents' dog. It's embarrassing mostly because of the wretchedness of the lives of so many people here in Addis and elsewhere in the country, but it's a little more personal since my parents seem attached to Dixie and I myself find her quite sweet. My dad just figured out today that the reason she hasn't been eating the past few days was a tick that's given her some sort of fever. The tick's been removed and she's been given antibiotics, but she's so thin and weak that it's hard to tell if she'll survive or not. I really hope that she does. It would be sad for the dog to die while I'm here. (Doesn't bode well for my stay here :-/.)
Other than Dixie's poor health things here have been good. Quiet, but good. I took the day off today and relaxed at home, reading and watching movies for the most part. It's nice to have a day off every once in a while. Getting the extra sleep was wonderful too (I didn't need to go into town, so I didn't have to set my alarm - what a blessing!).
Sunday is the Lord's Nativity, so sometime tomorrow I need to go over to the monastery near us to find out when their festal services will be. For some reason part of my mind has been telling me that Ethiopians celebrate the Nativity at midnight, but I'm not sure if my memory's to be trusted in this or not :-/. I've never been to any of the major feasts in Ethiopian Orthodox churches, but 'cause of being in Russia and the calendar difference between the churches there and my church here I'll be going to Ethiopian Orthodox churches for both the Nativity and Theophany. Apparently Theophany is quite spectacular here, so I'm really looking forward to that :-).
Так, это всё.
