i will try to update my lj as far as possible, even about the most mundane, banal, trite parts of my life here.
for today, the sun was shining really brightly, though it was a little chilly outside. that's October weather for you.
so we all gathered by the riverside for a little picnic of pringles, pasta, cashew nuts and chocolate biscuits.
it's sunday today so the fields are all packed with kids and parents having their day out. and their dogs too.
i never cease to be amazed at the view of the castle and the old town from the riverside. and it's even better from the river itself. we went boating after that, with one of those little pedal boats, and we were chasing wild ducks (mallards) down the river. i think we must be all 12 years old on boats. then we started splashing each other with water. there were two boats, one with alex, ben, marianne and nick. the other had me, tiina and suzanne. the boys are boys, so they challenged us to a race and everything.
and alex, that idiot, took an oar and heaved an oar-ful of water to my boat, and it completely drenched me. damn idiot. so i had wet hair, wet jeans and partially wet long-sleeved top, while the weather was getting slowly chilly. thank goodness we went for dinner quickly afterwards, to this pizza place called Gino's, where i had the saltiest sardine pizza ever made by man, seriously. so i didn't really catch a cold or anything.
i think after that episode in italy, maybe i've been underestimating how much i know of westerners (or americans). i expected help, but possibly to him since i said i didn't need help the first time he assumed i can deal with it, and then so when i needed help i had to yell for it.
ian said, that's equality for you. hmmm.
oh well. school starts officially tmr. i'm scared i can't follow the lectures, because my german is still rather bad, even though i can write better than i speak. i think it's time that i read more german books/literature/anything.
the problem is, heidelberg has so many international students and plus, almost all german students are effectively bilingual in both english and german, so they tend to speak more english to me, just because i'm more comfortable speaking in english. that doesn't improve my german any. it's driving me nuts at how i falter halfway just because i forgot the word/phrase i wanted to say. stressful man.
also due to popular request (actually only siwei) i have decided to unlock some posts. just like this one.
