Forbidden act
The figure entered the hidden quarters silently. There he was, the figure’s target. Sasuke was asleep on his right side, hand hidden under his pillow, no doubt clutching the hilt of a weapon. This was when the boy-not-yet-man could be considered most vulnerable, but the figure knew that that simply wasn’t true. Any misstep, any flare of chakra, even the figure’s own breathing, might have awakened Sasuke and then it would have all been over. Fortunately for the figure, there was no chance for any of that to happen.
The figure sat next to the bed, staring for long, quiet moments, the darkness only partially broken by the dying fire in the fireplace. Eventually, the figure reached toward Sasuke’s face, seemingly unaware. Eyes never leaving the pale visage, the figure’s fingers trailed a feather touch across achingly familiar features.
…a delicate nose that had once dusted the faintest of pinks in a blush…
…dark brows that heralded the wrath of gods when Sasuke glared…
…a deceptively delicate cheekbone…
…and finally to the lax mouth that now almost never left its permanently semi-frowning state.
A bittersweet twinge struck the figure’s chest. The past was long dead and gone now.
A flash of darkness marring fair skin caught the figure’s eye before it could pull away. A moment of hesitancy…but finally the figure’s hand slowly approached the wretched curse seal just barely visible from the curve of Sasuke’s shoulder. The long fingers hesitated - a heartbeat - before tracing the dark markings.
So small…yet they had spewed forth soul-consuming waves of hate and resentment and drugging, seductive promises of power…
Pain…
Betrayal…
Loss…
Time was almost up. The figure withdrew the hand. In repose, Sasuke seemed so young- was so young. But he had an old warrior’s mask of complete indifference perpetually on his face. The figure felt intense sorrow burning in his chest, a slow burn threatening to tear its way out. The figure never wanted to see that mask on Sasuke’s face, would given up anything to see surprise light up those dark eyes or a laugh come out of his throat, or even his mouth twisted in embarrassment. Bending, the figure drew close to Sasuke, lips hovering over Sasuke’s own in an almost kiss.
A moment. Then two…
With a simple movement, the figure placed a whisper of a kiss on Sasuke’s forehead. Rising, the figure withdrew towards the exit but kept his eyes focused on Sasuke. He didn’t want to lose a second of looking upon Sasuke’s precious form.
It really was too short of a moment. The figure disappeared, leaving the room as dawn slowly broke into the darkness, a whisper lingering in the crisp, spring air of early morning.
~Goodbye~
-----------------------------------------------
I never told you…
Being held by you, breathing in the scent of your skin, feeling the warmth of your body and the way your chest moved as you breathed, I learned what it meant to love. I basked in the warmth of your gentle smile, feeling its heat suffuse my own body as if it were living flame. Your fingers, rough from hard work, felt like the finest silks as they caressed my cheek.
You branded my body as yours.
I never told you…
Your embrace became my destruction, the smell of your skin cloying and intoxicating. The more I tried to breathe, the more it filled my lungs, suffocating me, even as you continued to hold me, your own breath steady and calm. Your cruel smile devoured me in fire and destruction, a roaring inferno leaving nothing behind. Your touch petrified me, stealing life away for no purpose other than because it could.
I would always be yours. You would never be mine.
I never told you…
…you were my destruction.

(Inspired by Hidden Truth - Vampire Knight OST)
You hide the truth from me, deep within the dark depths of your eyes. My every entreaty falls upon seemingly deaf ears and blind eyes. And so I plead you with silently, my hands outstretched and reaching.
You brush them aside as if they were lint. There is no malice in your face, no intent to hurt. And yet, that strikes a crueler blow than if you meant to hurt.
...At least I would have known you still felt something.
And so, it is over. I close this-- no, that chapter in my life, as I gently shut the apartment door. With every step, I leave you behind me, in that darkened hallway of my past, until time itself forgets that you and I had ever known each other.
-----------------------------------------
I pretend so you don't see,
What exactly you've made of me.
I'll smile, not frown,
Sharing ups, never downs.
And at the end of the day,
When you have gone,
I'll remove the mask,
And all will be done.
