[Maria has one, very important question on her mind when she picks up the phone.  If she doesn't find the answer, it may spell the end of her existence in Mayfield!

Okay not really, but she promised that she would figure it out and there was no way she would break her promise!]

Uu-...  Maria wants to know how cars work!  Can someone help Maria?

...I didn't realize young girls were permitted to drive vehicles such as a human car. [Earth is so weird.]

Uu-? Maria can't drive! Maria wants to learn, though. [Learn how they work, not drive one... But y'know, minor details!

For whatever reason. Surely you can just walk wherever you need to, little girl.

Maria's not "little girl"! Maria's Maria. And Maria's asking for a friend.

Right, Maria it is. Why can your friend not ask himself? Is he mute? [Because he met mute people, so they definitely exist.]

She's not mute! But Maria promised to find out, because Maria didn't know.

I still don't see why the inner workings of an automobile would be of any interest to a girl who sounds...younger than twelve I assume? Either way it isn't your responsibility to find out for her, promise or not.

Maria is 9 years old! And you're never supposed to break a promise. Never ever, it's not nice! Mama always tells Maria to be nice, so Maria is gonna take... responsibility, uu-.

Breaking promises is something generally frowned upon in all cultures, but it really isn't a breaking a promise if you are incapable of fulfilling it. Something that you might need to become accustomed to given your age.

Maria is capable. Maria doesn't promise things she can't do, uu-! And Maria isn't going to break it or not fulfill it because Maria can find out.

Children are very spirited these days. It's a little endearing I must say. Very well, I wish you luck then Maria. Cars are not something I choose to spend my time with, so I cannot tell you anything worthwhile about them.

Maria will do her best and learn! And should Maria tell you when she learns? She can help teach lots of people, uu-.

I will not stop you if that is what you want.

Maria will!
