Some Nitty Gritty

Hello Kifu Archive! As Ver has already told you, I am hostilecrayon, the new co-mod in these parts. If all goes well, you probably won’t hear from me much, so keep right on looking to Ver for all the amazing BG survivor activities she puts out for us! I’m more of an ‘as needed’ mod - namely, I deal with enforcing the rules Ver lays out for us.

As with any good community, Kifu Archive has rules - it has to if we’re going to keep everything as enjoyable as possible for everyone. I’m just going to be addressing a couple of questions about these rules so that the intent is clear, as there has been some confusion in the past, and we’re hoping for smooth sailing from here on out.

First - why public reprimands? This is actually for both the protection of the mods and the protection of the members - namely, you guys. If everything is kept out in the open, there is no question about who said what, which means it is easy for the mods to track repeat offenders, and it’s also easy for a member to show mod mistakes or, in a worst case scenario, mod abuse (which is unlikely, but hey, just in case). Furthermore, if it is public, other members who may not have known will be able to learn from it and steer clear of that in their own community interactions. You see, moderation is generally not done out of anger or a sense of the mod is right and the members are wrong. It is done out of necessity, to gently remind members what is expected of them at Kifu Archive and to keep things running smoothly. Doing this publically ensures that all members are aware of what they should not do, and also so there is a public interaction for all to see, which promotes moderator fairness. Which brings us to…

Why don’t you want us deleting our comments? This is, again, out of the want to insure fairness is being upheld in the community, and also so that conversations within the community are preserved. Nothing is quite as annoying as coming across a conversation only to find half of it is deleted. We wish to both preserve any moderation done for future reference and to keep the community a smooth read. That being said, if you make a mistake in a drabble post, or for some other reason need to delete so that you can repost - that’s still perfectly acceptable. We are just asking that you do not delete conversation posts simply for the sake of erasing your half of the conversation. If a comment truly needs to be deleted, please bring it to the attention of a moderator, and we will make decisions about which comments should be deleted on a case to case basis.

Why do you want us to post our comments to drabbles in the support thread instead of on the actual drabble? This is a great question, to which there is a simple answer - to avoid cluttering. The drabble thread is for prompts and drabbles only. I’m sure you’ve been places where you have to scroll down eighty comments before you get to see the next relevant post. We wish to avoid this by having all commentary in the support thread, which is made specifically for flailing and squeeing and other such things. Then how will you know when someone has commented? Simple - use the tracking feature. Just make sure you track each support thread and you will instantly get an e-mail for every comment made in it. Simple, right?

One more very important thing - if you bring an issue to a moderator and they deny your request, you are welcome to ask why, but once you have been given the reason, please do not argue further. The mods do their best to address every comment as fairly as possible, but we have reasons for why we do things, some of which I have just outlined, and in the end, we are the authority here. We don’t want it to ever come to that - after all, we’re Blind Go survivors ourselves, that’s why we’re here in the first place - but official warnings will be handed out if we find we have no choice.

This is all I wish to address at the moment - I will make future posts if needed, though I am hoping it won’t be. This is the thread where you should direct all of your comments and concerns, and I will be happy to address them. Otherwise, get writing, as the Blind Go deadline is hot on our heels! Snap to it, guys!
