pizza!

I've been craving pizza something awful for about a week, but the whole house is much too poor to be ordering pizza. Plus, Pizza Hut and Domino's and all of that, while tasty, is... eugh. You know. So, I just decided I'd make my own, and it turned out awesome.

I just looked up a quick pizza dough recipe on All Recipes and found this. The comments were encouraging, so I gave it a shot. All I did differently was swap the vegetable oil out for olive oil. This dough was very simple to make, and it turned out really nice in the oven. It was crunchy on the outside edges and soft in the middle, and the olive oil made a good addition.

I spread the dough out on a cookie sheet, as we are lacking in the pizza pan department, and then made up a sauce. This I just sort of winged, but I was happy with it. I used:

-half a can of diced tomatoes (about seven ounces)
-two teaspoons of sugar (more or less, depending on your tastes)
-one glove of garlic, minced
-thyme, oregano, rosemary, parsley (to taste)

I tossed it all into a blender and blended until I had it at a consistency I liked, then I spread it out on the dough. Then it was time for toppings. We didn't have a whole lot to pick from, so I ended up using onion, green pepper, broccoli, and a little chicken. And cheese, of course, but that ended up being taco blend shredded cheese. Apparently that all sounds a bit weird, but it turned out really nice. After that, I used a bit of egg wash on the edges of the crust and sprinkled it with the thyme and oregano and whatnot from before.

Into the oven! It's tough for me to say what I cooked it at, because my oven actually happens to be some kind of indecisive demon. It tends to flash cook things if you don't watch it, and I generally have to cook things 50 to 100 degrees cooler than what a recipe calls for. This was probably in there at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for twenty or thirty minutes. It just needs to be in there longer enough for the chicken to be cooked thoroughly. It smelled amazing, and when I got to take it out, it looked totally wonderful.

All in all, I am really happy with how this turned out! I'll definitely be making it again sometime.
