This was for a challenge over at MFUWSS; re: The Gazebo in the Maze Affair
Dearest Victoria,
I hope you are well and do not mind admitting that I miss a little female companionship. The company of the serving girl is all very well, but servants are not for confidences, and the dear girl is decidedly naïve and far to common.
On the topic of female confidences, I have some interesting news for you. Emory has brought home a young man from his visit to the colonies. He is such an attractive young man, and so polite though Emory insists that the lad lacks the proper breeding. Still, if only I was twenty years younger. Sadly, Emory informs me that the young man is to be used as a lure but might interrogated later, so I can not enjoy his company for a while yet. I peeked in through the iron maiden anyway and I must say I am looking forward to any interrogation Emory deems necessary. I believe we both know what I would do to the young man if I could. Perhaps when Emory has completed his business with the lad, you might come up to the estate and see what you can do with whatever is left of him.
I do so like guests. We have so few as Emory says we need to keep a low profile, but if his latest scheme concludes successfully, we will soon have plenty of guests with which to occupy ourselves. Do come down and join us. I would not, however, bring your young man as Emory can be so very straight laced about these things. Emory is so concerned with breeding these days though I suspect there are a few dark marks on his own ancestry. Nevertheless, Emory is doing well as always. As you know, he must ever have his plots and plans and I can only be grateful that this time he has not insisted I accompany him to some foreign local. Men can be so absurd sometimes.
Best of Wishes,
Edith
