So yesterday I had my official interview with Maggie Moos. I got there a little early, but all the better IMHO.
Larry was running late, so Lynda had me start out filling out a W-4, which I'm really glad she left me alone to fill it out, because I spent a good ten minutes staring at it trying to figure out what the hell it wanted me to do. I figured it out though without looking like a drooling idiot.
Last time I had to fill one of those out was...gods, when I worked at Macys...and even then I think they let me take it home so I could ask mom and mike.
So yah, my first tax filing all by myself. once the words translated themselves from Sanscrit to Greek, I at least was able to pretend I knew what I was doing.
So I get that all filled out and cool my heels waiting for Larry. The shop is busy so Lynda is busy scooping icecream...the owners are neck deep in all of the work there.
The shop hits a lull (or rather, a breathing space) and Lynda comes over and begins explaining what the job entails. Uniforms, pay, schedule, etc etc. Larry shows up and we chat a bit more about all that, then as we're talking, I'm slowly realizing that they intend for me to throw in a couple hours today, hit the ground running. Technically its training, but since they've got cake orders, i'm the trainee, what better way to train a gal than real live cases?
So the next several hours were a blur of trying to absorb information and trying my hand at things.
Honestly?
It could have gone better. I mean, I know and THEY knew that there would be an adjustment period. They do things a bit differently than I do things, and there were things I've never done before. So they weren't expecting master pieces, and I certainly wouldn't have been able to provide them the first day even if I wasn't only running on a couple hours of sleep and hadn't been expecting to be thrown in the trenches.
That said, The 4 cakes I helped make/made turned out okay, but definitely not up to my personal standards. They were passable, but thats about it.
Thats okay though. Next time I will be better.
I have no idea what time I actually got out of there....they let me out earlier than they were even intending because I got a call from mom...they had been waiting to hear from me and had wanted to take me out to dinner...but dinner came around and I didn't show. So when I called them back they were already at Anthony's and wondering what happened. I let them know what was going on.
After that I was able to have a legitimate reason to want to leave early on my first day....my family had been planning a surprise dinner, but we all didn't know I was working on the spot that night.
So with that reason in tow, I got out of there before my feet exploded, went home and passed out.
And woke up with my head threatening to explode.
I'm ibuprophened up, tiger balm...pretty much poured all over my head and neck. I'll get used to working that way of course, but theres going to be *that* pain adjustment period as well.
I left slightly confused as to whether or not they're going to be calling me in today. I *think* they are, because we had a few more cakes that we didn't finish, but I'm not positive.
I'm going to be ready anyway.
Once my head stops trying to tear itself off my shoulders that is. Hot shower should help. hopefully.
