Boy was I lucky. I got my energy bill taken care of, and had to pay almost none of it instead of the 40% that would have been the usual. People never seem to realize how important charity is. In the absence of programs that I would otherwise be eligible for, like food stamps (I can't get it in my state because I'm too able-bodied) it's all that's keeping a roof over my head while I look for work.
The food I got was mostly normal this time, with some new things:
Bacon cheddar stuffed chicken breasts
Bean sprouts
Curry soup
Brown rice
Radishes
Tomatoes
Potatoes!
Ground pork
Salad mix
Yes, the potatoes are a big deal.
As is usual, I immediately made a meal using the most perishable meat source: chicken. They were delicious baked with that Brazilian rice and some corn. If you look at some of the ingredients above, you may see what my next recipe will be: fried rice. I haven't made it since I lived back with my brother up north. He railed against the smell of garlic in his kitchen. I haven't had bean sprouts since then either, and it's a big bag, so I'm going to warn Will that it may have unpleasant-smelling effects.
For the moment we'll be enjoying baked potatoes as an additional side dish, though right now we may or may not be able to get butter this month.
The pork will be going into our Thanksgiving meat loaf along with some of the beef we regularly stock. That's really something to look forward to. Last time I made it, the sandwiches made from the leftovers were pretty epic.
