I finally got to have a good mess about with it yesterday, and it's the fucking business. Any other guitar types that like their valve sounds but live anywhere other than the middle of the forest should definitely consider one. My last valve amp was a SC120 circa 1970, and it sounded fab, although the people at the end of the road may disagree, the problem being the volume needed to get a nice natural overdrive. These beasties do it much quieter, although it is still loud enough at 5w (comparable to about 15-20w on a transister job). I've got mine hooked up to a 1x15 and it has no trouble driving that, so I assume that a 4x12 will sound fabulous with one of these on top, although it may look like a pimple on a pigs arse.
All for the bargain price of a ton. I haggled at GAK and got mine for 89 quid. I was at the point of trying to find an old valve record deck or tape player and canibalising it, (I still have a nice 1930's speaker waiting for that if anyone has an old one they need to shift) but this saved me the hassle and risk of high voltage fun.
