...very, VERY proud!

My friend H reckons that Nikon got the ergonomics just right, that's why their cameras feel *right* in your hands (and for me, C*non ones always felt plasticky - and too small to hold confortably. I am tall, have big hands...).

I would say - wait a little longer and buy a D200 instead. It's aimed at the enthusiastic/semi-pro market, and it feels very much like a D2X (have handled both, no way I can justify spending the money for the D2X) and it's more robust and weatherproof. I am waiting for the price to fall a little too.

Regarding lenses - the 50mm 1.8 is a *cracking* lens, one you will not regret buying (I should know, I used to have one... Then I lent it to a 'friend' and both lens and friend disappeared! Am considerig buying it again).

Wideangle wise - you'll probably need something wider than the 35mm, due to the crop factor on DSLRs.
Talking about zoom: I have a 28-80 and a 28-100 which I never use (both kit lenses, came with the F75 and the F80) - although Nikkors, they are the cheap and cheerful version. Would you like one of them? I would be happy for them to be used instead of gathering dust......:)

I'll let you know how the disposable challenge ends up!

I think the 35mm f/2 would do me; I know my shooting conditions for bellydance well. I mostly shoot with plain 50mm lenses on 35mm cameras. Lighting can be poor and flash is absolutely prohibited (not that it stops all the people with dinky slow digicams who can't or don't know how to turn it off and can't get shots with or without it anyway). Shutter speed is pretty much fixed by the action at 1/60, so what varies is aperture. I usually see f/2-f/4 at 800 ISO. Fast lenses are the ONLY option!

And unfortunately, beyond 35mm fast lenses get prohibitively expensive and large. And really, I haven't found much use for wide angle with dancers anyway. Outdoors, yes, but there I don't need the speed and a regular wide zoom kit lens will do.

Given my lens needs, I'd rather put my money into glass than a better body. No D200 for me. :( But I do need the faster sensor, so it's D80, unless they come up with a lower-end camera with the same sensor.
