IE

A co-worker of mine was having a issue where when she tried to open an IE shortcut it would open in an open window instead of a new window. I had previously had this problem on my work machine so I new it was just a setting somewhere that needed to be changed. I did a quick google search to see if I could find where to change the setting faster. All of the first 10 results where how to edit the registry (something I am not able to do on work machines) so that IE wouldn't do this. About the seventh one I looked at gave lengthy instructions on how to edit the registry properly and then said in tiny font at the bottom: "If you want to effect the same thing without editing the registry, go to tools/internet options, click the advanced tab and un-check the box next to 'Reuse windows for launching shortcuts'." Why would I want to edit the registry if I can just turn off the setting? Is there some advantage to changing the registry instead?
