OK, so the other night I tore myself away from Warcraft long enough to install Oblivion on my new harddrive(courtesy awesomest girlfriend). However, when the installer had finished and I clicked 'Finish', the installer didn't close. Eventually I was forced to endtask the installer. At this point, when I tried to start the game I got an error

unfortunately that doesn't tell you which files to uninstall, just where it was installed from and what the uninstall string is (as well as some other useless information for this purpose).
I would run ccleaner, find all of the orphaned entries in the registry and the files on the machine, delete anything oblivion related (you could search for "oblivion" in the registry, or any other keywords related to the game), reboot the machine, and try again.
