i lived in france for nine months when i was a junior in high school. amazing food, beautiful countryside, some really wonderful people. however, the french loooooove their language and culture, and can be a bit haughty about it. definitely felt some anti-american sentiments when i was there ("how can you be american? you aren't fat!") but also a lot of curiosity about me and my culture. i have the feeling that if they're letting you into your home with the intention of learning english, they'll be good people. and you'll probably eat amazing meals every single day. AND FRESH BAGUETTES! ALL THE TIME! AND THE BEST PASTRIES YOU'LL EVER EAT EVER!!!!! also WINE. hellllllla families have their own wine cellars.
no matter where you go it will probably be gorgeous. provence is magnificent. brittany is pacific northwest-y. paris is a ton of fun. normandy is quite lovely as well. i could babble on forever, sorry.
also: i've heard only good things about spain and have wanted to go there for awhile now. haven't had much of a desire to see italy, though. i've heard good things, but also a lot of bad things.
