I completely missed your rant (probably by virtue of not having you on my f-list) but I largely agree in so far as the medical issues go. I'm not entirely sure about the alternative though. I'm always torn on the issue between the need for medical accuracy and the demands of rapid story-telling. I don't mind that they bend the facts here and there. I start objecting when they're factually wrong (ABO...WHAT?!) or make mistakes that directly impact characterisation (huh?!...pain management...huh?!). This time they were merrily dancing back and forth across the line. On one hand, I'm not interested in watching House being observed for 24 hours (which IMO would be the sensible thing) - it'd be dull as dishwater. On the other hand, it annoys me that they chose such a glib approach.

I really like this story. It addresses the issues well. I was thoroughly confused by his outward acceptance of being drugged and skewered. It's not how I'd expect him to react but I understand the argument that he'd do the same thing if needed and must feel that the applicants gave him a dose of his own medicine so to speak. Either way, the show did skip some essential details.

*psst* paracetamol isn't an NSAID

paracetamol isn't an NSAID

known as acetaminophen here. and yeah--i know. so... trying again [answered this a few comments up]. it is my contention that house takes large doses of NSAIDS [my guess, judging from my own experience, would be ibuprofen, probably 1200mg/day, 600 morning and night] as the combo increases the pain relieving efficacy of both the hydrocodone and the ibuprofen. i once had a friend who had chronic pain and an allergy to NSAIDs. Her doctor told her, whenever she'd claim her meds weren't working, that it was a pity she could take only tylenol [acetaminophen/paracetamol] to supplement, as it hasn't the necessary anti-inflammatory properties. and with house, in my opinion and from my own experience, as i said upthread, taking ibuprofen for chronic pain is as boring and necessary and not worth mentioning as taking laxatives for the constipation hydrocodone causes!

Oh, shoot. I didn't read all the comments - I'm trying hard to look as if I'm working right now. I am a pedant when it comes to canon though and as long as it's not shown/mentioned/made clear, I'd personally not use it as a plot point, but to each their own.

And I didn't, you know, fish for a friending. I just wanted to explain why I missed it. Oh, what the heck *friends back*

i totally 'get' the canon thingy--i am, believe it or not, of the very same mindset. i suppose that, in this instance, it's so much a part of my own existence, and my previous nursing experience, that, in my twisted little brain, it is 'unmentioned' canon. perhaps not, but for plot purposes, it works out well, no? ;)

didn't for a second think you were 'fishing'--just wasn't something that had occurred to me either. and i realize many of us already have out-of-control f-lists--but some folks [i'm looking at you silja_b] are just worth friending. ;)

now get back to giving every appearance of working before you make the rest of us slackers look bad [my house has begun to make audible noises in its bid for my sorely needed attentions].

i'm looking at you silja_b

*ducks* ;)

I'm actually trying to keep a small f-list. I generally only friend people I have a little experience with. I try to avoid capslockers, trolls and wankers - I've had some unfortunate encounters in another fandom *shudders*

Yes, it makes it clear that it's not paraceta acetaminophen that's increasing the risk of haemorrhage. Either way, it's a good story ;)
