So I think I should do an update since I'm a lazy fuck and don't keep any of you informed.
For starters, I finally had a graduation. It was the departmental one and not the giant one in the stadium (thank god). It was more touching than I had anticipated and though I didn't get that special scholarship (#2) that I thought I was getting only days previous to the ceremony, I did get recognized on stage and was presented a book gift from my professors. I really only wanted to be recognized and I was. Sooo, the family was up for that. I got to speak to my cousin Robert John without Andy being there. This meant that we actually got to talk and connect on a lot of things rather than Andy filtering everything I say with "He's lying" or something that makes me look stupid (his favorite game) in front of him. Ian is a little shit now, it's almost disturbing how much joy he derives out of annoying people or doing potentially dangerous things to people. I love him with all my heart and I don't want him to think I'm mad at him but I think he's tapping into some real problems. Let's hope it passes with growing up.
I've started this group of workshops called EDGE and they are preparing me for entering into serious show proposals, resumes, CV's, taxes, insurance...the whole gamut of things that artists should know for their careers. I'm trying to get back on my feet. For three months I have been slacking off, not utilizing the free time my parents have given me. Now I'm ready to get another job (albeit food service again) whilst looking for another opportunity in the arts later on.
I went shopping the other day with graduation money and bought:
It's so fucking sexy, straight out of Star Trek. It's a 500 GB hard drive (finally) to back up my work and free up my computer. I had like 2 gigs left on it. I also got:
It's a flatbed scanner that can be upright as well. It comes with a film scanner as well so expect some weird ass shit (i.e. art) to be posted soon.
Lastly, I splurged on this:
If anyone doesn't know what this is, it's a new BBC series about, what else, Planet Earth and it is super comprehensive, beautifully shot, contains footage of never before seen material and.. well it's just fucking amazing and I think you should check it out.
I could post twice but I thought that I might add that I've begun seeing this really down to earth and funny guy named Justin. I met him over conversation concerning TV pop culture (Arrested Development, South Park, Sarah Silverman, etc.) and sci-fi. I find myself more attracted to him the more I hang out with him, Kim tells me that's a good thing. Hey I can't argue. It's like we've known each other longer than we actually have. Anyway, he likes to do really crude but funny photoshopped pictures (I'm teaching him how the pros do it) and I've attached two here.
Mmmmm, tasty Justin
What he really looks like
