Haters be hatin'

I found this while researching the culture of Sweden... I imagine they're not the only ones with this particular mindset.

Wiki:
"Jante Law refers to a pattern of group behaviour towards individuals within Scandinavian communities, which negatively portrays and criticizes success and achievement as unworthy and inappropriate."

Don't think you're anyone special or that you're better than us.

The ten rules state:
  1. Don't think that you are special.
  2. Don't think that you are of the same standing as us.
  3. Don't think that you are smarter than us.
  4. Don't fancy yourself as being better than us.
  5. Don't think that you know more than us.
  6. Don't think that you are more important than us.
  7. Don't think that you are good at anything.
  8. Don't laugh at us.
  9. Don't think that any one of us cares about you.
  10. Don't think that you can teach us anything.

11. Don't think that there is anything we don't know about you.

And something about tall poppies: "Americans are thought to appreciate the successful, seeing them as an example to admire and attempt to emulate."

Benjamin Franklin Fairless, president of United States Steel Corporation (1950), criticised such behaviour when he stated: "You cannot strengthen one by weakening another; and you cannot add to the stature of a dwarf by cutting off the leg of a giant."

The crab analogy is kinda funny.

And then there's Harrison Bergeron. I liked Kurt Vonnegut's short story, but I'm not a fan of the movie.
