Another dresser refinishing project: start

Aug 05, 2006 17:40

This morning we stopped by one of the garage sales advertised on chambana. Picked up a good medium-size dresser for a decent price. The insides of the drawers need a little planing to make them fit better. I'm also going to refinish most of the surfaces. It's relatively light and is all solid wood construction (pretty sure it's walnut). The bottom of one side panel is slightly warped, but overall it's in good condition, especially considering what I found on the back...

1939 yo!

I still have all the necessary supplies from the first dresser and sewing table projects, so it won't cost me anything extra to refinish this dresser.

After looking at my pictures more and considering the age of the dresser, I think I'm going to keep the original drawer pulls, rather than purchase new ones. I can always replace them later if I want to update the style.

I got right to work and removed the drawer pulls before laying on the stripper.

Also started the dresser top. Will have to do the front and sides in turn.

It takes only a few hours for the stripper to do its magic. I'm ready to check on it now...
