Dead mans band

The Daniel face and I trundled up to Ft Lauderdale last night to see the newly ressarected Alice in Chains. We mainly went to see the support band Hurt (are these guys out in the UK yet?), a truely awesome new band who for some reason remind me a lot of tool (I think it might be the guys voice). Theyre not really like tool too much at all, theres just something toolesque about them which I cant quite put my finger on. Anyway, live they were absolutely fucking AMAZING. That Guy has THE best fucking voice I think I have ever EVER heard. On the album (titled "volume 1" - go and buy it NOW) he kind of sings under the music a bit, kind of like the tool guy, but he really really shouldnt because his voice is just breathtaking. I get the impression they have Irish roots, it was the hats they were wearing and the kind of "look" they had about them and some of the notes the guy hits have an irishy twang about them (as he does a little when he speaks, but unless he was doing a gay faux american accent they were definitely not properly irish irish). Anyways they blew me away completely (uh oh seems like helen has ANOTHER new favourite band!) and the crowning glory was the insane fucking metal violin solo. It was just a normal violin but the dude played it like a fucking maniac and there was this wicked drawn out guitar plus violin solo which made every hair on my body stand on end.

So anyways after Hurts performance I dont think anyone could really have kept up, and Alice in Chains were frankly dull. It was really strange cus the new guy sounds virtually identical to the dead dude, just not quite so good. It was like watching a really really good cover band or something. It was akin to having the Bush guy sing for Nirvana or something and it all just seemed a little souless and lifeless, as well as pointless (they didnt play any new material). I mean it was a good show and enjoyable but it just lacked *something*.

And now I seem to have an infected eye - Daniel keeps calling me "foul eye".
